In late 2024, I embarked on a nerve-wracking yet exhilarating journey into the world of live radio. I had the unique opportunity to speak with Annabel Amos on BBC Radio Northampton. This was my first experience stepping into the spotlight to discuss something deeply important to me: our community group’s efforts to combat crime in the Northampton area. As a member of the Eastfield Residents' Association, I was passionate about sharing our anti-burglary initiatives aimed at enhancing safety in our neighborhood. The experience was both daunting and exciting. Speaking live on air was unlike anything I had ever done before. As I sat in front of the microphone, nerves fluttered in my stomach. Yet, as the conversation began, I found my passion for the subject matter helped calm my nerves. I realised that my voice was a powerful tool for advocating positive change and fostering community spirit. Engaging with Annabel Amos was a rewarding experience, and it encouraged me to embrace more opportunities to share my insights publicly. Fast forward to 2025, and I found myself back at BBC Radio Northampton, this time with Bernie Keith. My focus had shifted from community safety to my interior design business, with a particular emphasis on neurodivergent interiors. This was a topic close to my heart, as I have seen first hand the challenges faced by individuals with sensory issues in creating comfortable and functional living spaces. Discussing interior design on live radio was a whole new level of challenge. I aimed to explain how thoughtful design choices can significantly impact those with sensory sensitivities. My goal was to provide listeners with practical insights into creating environments that cater to diverse needs, improving overall well-being and comfort. Looking back, my radio appearances were instrumental in pushing me out of my comfort zone and helping me grow both personally and professionally. They taught me the value of sharing my voice and expertise, not just within my local community but on a broader platform.
